What Are ACEs?

ACEs, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, are events that happen to kids before they turn 18. These experiences can affect a person’s body and mind even when they grow up. ACEs can be things like abuse or experiencing things at home like a parent who drinks or uses drugs, has a mental illness, or when parents split up.

There is research that shows that more ACEs can make people more likely to have health problems like heart issues, cancer, depression, addiction, and more. Families who know about ACEs and ways to help with them can help reduce health problems later in life.

How Do ACEs and Wraparound Connect?

ACEs can make things harder for kids. Kids with high ACE scores can need help from multiple systems and people. Wraparound understands that many things affect how kids grow up, like trauma, family struggles, problems with friends, and community support.

Wraparound uses teams to help kids and families get support to feel better. This team approach is helpful for kids with ACEs.

How Magellan Helps

Here at Magellan, we help families in Wyoming deal with ACEs by learning coping skills. We bring people together and make teams to support a special kind of help called the High Fidelity Wraparound model. This helps kids and families manage crises.

Magellan looks at what kids and families are good at and uses those strengths to build support systems. By working with strengths in Wyoming’s communities, we can make families stronger and give kids better chances in the future.

If you or someone you know is struggling because of ACEs, Magellan is here to help. Reach out to us at 855-883-8740 to find out more about how our Wraparound services can help you heal as a family.

And if you are a Wraparound provider and want to learn more about ACEs, Magellan can help with that too. Contact the Network team at Magellan.
